From the tropical haven of Tortuguero to the adventurous Arenal Volcano, and from the breathtaking Monteverde Cloud Forest to the sun-kissed beaches of the North and South Pacific regions, we’ll explore why these destinations are essential for any traveler. Let’s talk about these must-visit destinations in Costa Rica.
For the Newcomers
You’re thinking about Costa Rica for a vacation, and it’s your first time here. Let’s focus on that, because for those of you who have already been here (I see you and appreciate you), these were the first places you visited.
So, I’m speaking to the newcomers here—the people who have never been to Costa Rica or who already love it but want to know why these are must-see destinations in Costa Rica.
In the podcast, I’m going to start by talking about Tortuguero, which is usually the first destination included in a Costa Rica itinerary. You can find this in personalized itineraries or in larger packages from companies that bring thousands of people along the same route. Most itineraries start with Tortuguero.
After Tortuguero, the itinerary typically moves on to Arenal Volcano.
From there, you head up the hill to Monteverde Cloud Forest. After Monteverde, the journey usually continues to the beach.
Among the Must-See Destinations in Costa Rica there are two favorite beach spots.
Depending on your preferences, you might be directed to the beaches of the North Pacific, where you’ll find major resorts, known brands, and luxurious places.
Alternatively, you might head to the Central and South Pacific area, which is known for its diverse rainforests close to the ocean, teeming with monkeys, sloths, and more.
This is the main difference between the two endings of a typical Costa Rican itinerary.
In this podcast, I will tell you about these must-see places in Costa Rica (one by one) that you will find on most itineraries. Your travel agent has probably already mentioned them.
What makes a destination great in the travel industry?
It’s not just the beauty or natural phenomena; it must also have certain qualities. It needs good electricity, running water, transportation, and good roads.
There must be a range of accommodations, from lodges and hostels to high-end resorts.
It should offer activities for children and older people, places to eat, and spots to grab a beer. All these conditions must be well organized and professionally managed. That’s what makes a tourist destination stand out.
Not as known Destinations
Now, let’s consider another type of destination in Costa Rica. These are what I call “half off the beaten track” spots. Places like Sarapiquí, Corcovado in the Osa Peninsula, and the South Caribbean are less overwhelmed with tourism but still offer fantastic experiences. I’m planning a full podcast about these off-the-beaten-track tourist places in Costa Rica.
Finally, there are the completely off-the-beaten-track places. I’m going to bring experts to discuss these destinations and invite you to explore them fully, as they are just as stunning, mysterious, and fantastic as the must-see places.
Conclusion
For now, let’s focus on the destinations that travel agents commonly recommend.
In most online itineraries, you’ll see four main destinations: Tortuguero, Arenal, Monteverde, and a beach. Be Manuel Antonio or one of the amazing beaches in the North Pacific.

That’s why I created this podcast. I know some of the best people to operate tours in Costa Rica.
I don’t just recommend one; I recommend several different travel agents depending on your needs. So, if you need help with travel planning or have any questions about Costa Rica, I may be able to assist you.
